The beautiful coast line in Riomaggiore, the most southern village of Cinque Terre (Five Lands) of the Italian Riviera.
This photo was taken along the coastal trail between Riomaggiore and Manarola. The structure on the right is La via dell'Amore (The Way of Love) - which is aptly named because there's a real love story behind this bridge. These Cinque Terre towns used to be isolated and it was really difficult to get from one town to another (we actually experienced this when KC and I had to take a hike on the steep slopes on the hillside because some parts of the coastal trail were closed down due to a typhoon). Anyway, due to the town's isolation, people rarely married anyone outside of their village, until this bridge between the 2 towns was built. It became a lovers’ meeting point for boys and girls from the two towns and has brought lovers together. Most bridges' stories are about battles and trade and how they played part in history; but this one is about love... and it did change history for these towns as well.
